An AICD is a medical device implanted in the body in patients suffering from high heart rate and life-threatening arrhythmias as one of the first line of treatment. The AICD is a battery-powered small device capable of causing defibrillation and helps in detecting and stopping irregular heartbeats (arrhythmia) by delivering electric shocks. The diagnosis of arrhythmias can be done by an ECG of the heart. Any previous history of Ventricular Tachycardia or Ventrocular Fibrillation or previous cardiac arrest may be a cause why your doctor recommends an AICD procedure.
