Radiofrequency ablation test (RFA) is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that is used to deaden the nerve fibres surrounding painful joints to block the pain impulses from reachingg the brain. The procedure uses a thin needle to exactly locate the nerve which is confirmed by a fluoroscopy test. Followed by that, radiofrequency current is sent through the needle to that nerve area to damage a portion of the nerve tissue to interrupt pain signals from reaching the brain.
Radiofrequency Ablation is mainly done on patients suferring from chronic and recurrent pain such as peripheral nerve pain, spondylosis, cancer pain. This procedure is also carried out to destry dysfunctional tissues such as tumors and in patients with heart rhythm problems to stop irregular electrical signals in the body.
